On July 10-14, 2023, a 4-day training course was held for the members of the council working on the issues of disabled persons and the working group of the municipalities created in the project, in Ureki township, within the framework of the “Society Biliki” project “Development of local employment policy – improvement of the legal status of persons with disabilities”.
Topics of the training course:
- “Team work, presentation of initiative and distribution of responsibility”;
- “Acquaintance with the legal basis of the legal status of persons with disabilities.
On the first and second day of the training, the participants received information on the following topics:
- Team work efficiency factors, team work challenges;
- The process and content of the team’s work;
- Group decision-making difficulties; making difficult, values-related decisions;
- Development of decision-making criteria;
- Difficulties in reaching consensus;
- Decision making methods.
The training was conducted by the trainers of the “Partnership of Georgia” organization.
On the 3rd and 4th day of the training, the participants received information on the following topics:
- Changes in understanding the problems of disabled people;
- UN Convention on the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities;
- Rights of disabled persons in Georgian legislation;
- Development of policies adapted to the needs of disabled people at the local level;
- Comparative analysis of the policy of persons with disabilities in the member states of the European Union;
- IDPs from the occupied territories of Georgia, state programs and challenges of the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection;
- Programs and challenges of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
The training “Introduction to the legal framework on the legal status of persons with disabilities” is led by Simon Petridis, advisor to the president on issues of persons with disabilities.
- The project “Development of local employment policy – improving the legal status of persons with disabilities” is supported within the framework of the project “Advocacy for the Implementation of the Law on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, which is implemented by the Coalition for Independent Living in cooperation with the European Foundation and the Hudson Wall Center for Independent Living.
- The goal of the project: to support the local municipal policy in order to improve the legal status and protection of persons with disabilities.
- The target municipalities of the project are: Gori, Khashuri, Akhaltsikhe.
